General Agriculture

With our roots in rural Oregon, Treasure Valley Community College's agriculture programs keep pace with industry standards and state-of-the art technologies. Our courses are designed to help you learn the latest agriculture methods and techniques to increase production and profits.

TVCC's General Agriculture program gives students the option of creating an individual education plan that meets their specific career objectives. The flexibility of the general agriculture degree, as well as the broad foundation of the course work, allows you to complete a degree no matter what your previous skill level. This program has opportunities for the brand new student, as well as the experienced farmer or rancher. 

As a student in TVCC's Agriculture program, you will:

  • Customize your curriculum by focusing on certification or developing an emphasis area in fields like animal sciences, crop and soil science and agricultural or ranch business management.
  • Develop professional traits, including leadership and communication skills.
  • Identify the agricultural career you are most interested in and design a course of study with a faculty advisor to better qualify you for your chosen profession.

Degrees and Certificates

Ag Business Technician-Crop Science
1YR - Certificate (One Year)

The one-year Agriculture Business Technician Certificate prepares students to enter or advance in the agricultural field as a customer service/sales representative, field technician, or field scout with a focus on the crop and seed industry. This certificate is designed for students wishing to directly enter the workforce. It is not designed to transfer to a four year institution, although some courses are transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required to obtain the certificate.

Agriculture Business
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Ag Business prepares students for a wide variety of careers in Ag Business Management, including managing a farm or ranch, employment in the retail food production, producing fertilizer, or farm equipment sales. The program combines theory with the practical skills required for daily agriculture management operations and other agriculture related supply and service businesses. The degree is not designed to transfer to a four-year institution, although some courses are transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum of 90 credits and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 are needed to graduate.

Agriculture Machine Technology
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

Agriculture Machine Technology provides experience and exploratory opportunities to specialize in the field of agricultural machinery. Hands on application of workplace safety, maintenance, agriculture machinery, equipment innovations, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and irrigation systems will prepare students to service, maintain, or troubleshoot a variety of agricultural machinery. Students will complete a capstone linking theory with real world application to exemplify the depth of knowledge and skills attained throughout the program.

Agriculture, Business
AS - Associate of Science

This is an Associate of Science degree designed to transfer on to a 4-year College or University. TVCC has worked closely with Oregon State University, Eastern Oregon University and University of Idaho. Please contact the 4-year College or University and ensure that you have an advisor at both TVCC and your future school. If you plan on attending any 4-year school, after TVCC, please make sure you contact that school as early as possible while attending TVCC.

Animal Science
AS - Associate of Science

This is an Associate of Science degree designed to transfer on to a 4-year College or University. TVCC has worked closely with Oregon State University and University of Idaho. Please contact the 4-year College or University and ensure that you have an advisor at both TVCC and your future school. If you plan on attending any 4-year school, after TVCC, please make sure you contact that school as early as possible while attending TVCC.

Business Management
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

This degree prepares students for a wide variety of careers in business management. Entry level positions include management trainee, customer service, retail/wholesale/manufacturing sales representative, and positions in general business. - This degree is designed for students wishing to enter the workforce. It is not designed to transfer to a four-year institution, although some courses are transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum of 90 credits and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 are needed to graduate with a degree.

Business Management- Accounting
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

This program prepares students for a variety of careers in accounting. Successful graduates of this program may secure entry level positions as bookkeepers or accounting clerks in payroll or accounts payable and accounts receivable. This degree is designed for students wishing to directly enter the workforce. It is not designed for transfer to a four-year institution, although some coursework may be transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum of 90 credits and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 are needed to graduate with a degree.

Crop Science
AS - Associate of Science

This is an Associate of Science degree designed to transfer on to a 4-year College or University. TVCC has worked closely with Oregon State University and University of Idaho. Equine Business
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Science degree in Equine Business prepares student for a wide variety of careers in Equine Business Management including Equine Business Owner/Manager, Equine Facility Manager, Equine Riding Instructor and Equine Breeding operations. The program combines theory with practical skills required for daily equine management operations and other equine supply and service businesses.

Ranch Animal Technician
CERT - Career Pathways Certificate

This Pathways Certificate will prepare the student for entry level positions in agriculture. The successful student will possess applied skills in ranch animal production and management including nutrition and reproduction.

Ranch Management
AAS - Associate of Applied Science

This program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in Ranch Management, including manager of a small ranch, ranch hand, feedlot operator, brand inspector, and artificial inseminator. The program combines theory with practical skills needed for daily cattle operations. Students will learn the foundations of farm business and animal science as well as have hands-on experience working with ranch animals. This degree is designed for students wishing to directly enter the workforce. It is not designed for transfer to a four-year institution, although some coursework may be transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum of 90 credits and a minimum grade point average of 2.0 are needed to graduate with a degree.

Soil Science
AS - Associate of Science

This is an Associate of Science degree designed to transfer on to a 4-year College or University. TVCC has worked closely with the University of Idaho and Oregon State University to align to these University requirements. Please work with TVCC advisors and transfer university advisors to select elective courses that best fit your transfer institution. If you plan to transfer to another College or University, please make immediate contact with an advisor at that College or University.
