Animal Science

With our roots in rural Oregon, our faculty have first-hand, real-world experience
in animal science and animal production industries. At TVCC, you'll learn all aspects
of animal agriculture from reproduction, growing, feeding, health and management of
breeding and market livestock and ultimately converting livestock to a food (meat)
source to feed the world.

AAS - Associate of Applied Science
The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Ag Business prepares students for a wide variety of careers in Ag Business Management, including managing a farm or ranch, employment in the retail food production, producing fertilizer, or farm equipment sales. The program combines theory with the practical skills required for daily agriculture management operations and other agriculture related supply and service businesses. The degree is not designed to transfer to a four-year institution, although some courses are transferable. Students who wish to transfer coursework are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at their chosen transfer institution. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is needed to graduate.

CERT - Career Pathways Certificate
This CPCC will provide experience and exploratory opportunities to specialize in training and selling horses. Hands on application of work place safety, horse stall maintenance, horse health and welfare, halter training, colt starting and performance horse training.

This CPCC is designed for students who own horses and want to get out of the hobby horse category. This CPCC will provide opportunities for a part-time or full-time business in training horses, selling horses, giving lessons, boarding, or working on a ranch or feedlot.

The Associate of Science degree in Equine Business prepares student for a wide variety of careers in Equine Business Management including Equine Business Owner/Manager, Equine Facility Manager, Equine Riding Instructor and Equine Breeding operations. The program combines theory with practical skills required for daily equine management operations and other equine supply and service businesses.

Completing the Equine Business Management Technician Pathway certificate prepares students for a wide variety of entry level careers in Equine Business Management including Equine Business Owner and Manager, Equine Facility Manager, Equine Riding Instructor and Equine Breeding Operations. The CPCC combines theory with practical skills required for daily equine management operations and other equine supply and service businesses.

This is for students interested in pursuing a degree in Animal Science with an equine emphasis with Montana State University and include all requirements for the Associate of Science degree. Students who wish to transfer are strongly encouraged to work closely with their TVCC Advisor to develop a transfer plan and to identify and contact an advisor at Montana State University.

The Horse Training Degree will provide experience and exploratory opportunities to specialize in training and selling horses to the public. Hands on application of work place safety, horse stall maintenance, horse health and welfare, halter training, colt starting and performance horse training will prepare students to house, train and sell horses to the public. This degree will equip students to get out of the hobby horse category with the IRS and into a part-time or full-time business training horses, selling horses, giving lessons, boarding, or using horses to do day work on ranches and feedlots.

This program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in Ranch Management, including manager of a small ranch, ranch hand, feedlot operator, brand inspector, and artificial inseminator. The program combines theory with practical skills needed for daily cattle operations. Students will learn the foundations of farm business and animal science as well as have hands-on experience working with ranch animals.
This degree is designed for students wishing to directly enter the workforce. It is not designed for transfer to a four-year institution, although some coursework may be transferable.
