Adults who have not received a high school diploma may enroll in the General Education Development (GED) program. This program is designed to prepare students to pass the GED Test, which is composed of four subject areas:

  • Language Arts

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Social Studies

Classes are not required to take the GED test, but we are here to help you if you cannot pass the GED with your current skills. If you would prefer to take the tests on your own, without instruction, you can do that. If you are under age, however, the eligibility requirements and underage forms still need to be completed and submitted to our program in order for you to be able to register for the tests.

ELIGIBILITY

You do not need to be a resident of the State of Oregon to test at TVCC.

To qualify to take the GED test you must be 18 years of age or older. If you are 16 or 17 years old and want to test at TVCC, you need to be in one of these categories:

1. Be enrolled in a local school or educational district's GED Options program.

2. Be exempt from compulsory attendance with the last school district of enrollment's approval. To be exempt from compulsory attendance, an individual must have approval and a signed letter from the school district and from a parent or guardian.

3. Be emancipated. This is a legal mechanism by which a minor is freed from control by his or her parents or guardians, and the parents or guardians are freed from any and all responsibility toward the child. Emancipated minors must show proper documentation to be eligible to take the GED test.

If you are under 18 years old you must provide the three required documents, which can be downloaded from this site, and returned to Jann Bell (Oregon Trail - Suite 101) before your GED account will be unlocked and you can schedule official GED tests.

REGISTERING FOR CLASSES

TVCC offers open enrollment for our GED classes, but students must complete an orientation session before they can start classes. For more information about orientation and open enrollment follow the Orientation link to the left.

COMPLETION OF GED

Once you have completed your GED your certificate will be mailed to you by GED to the address you provided to the website.

If you take classes from TVCC you are also invited to attend our GED Graduation that is held every June. Invitations are mailed a couple weeks prior to all eligible students.

Also available to TVCC GED students is a tuition waiver for one free TVCC class. Students must satisfy other normal admission criteria, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and arrange for financial aid for additional classes if needed. Please stop by our office at Oregon Trail - Suite 101 for the tuition waiver form.
