Electrical Apprenticeship 

Electrical Apprentice Training

The Electrical trade is growing and Eastern Oregon and Western Idaho need more skilled Journeyman Electricians. As an electrician, you control your destiny. As our reliance on energy sources rises, so does the need for skilled electricians. The Electrical Apprenticeship Program at Treasure Valley Community College is your key to starting a rewarding career in a field that puts you in high demand.

The Electrical Apprenticeship Program at TVCC is a four-year program that will take you from the basics to being prepared to take the Journeyman test in Idaho or Oregon.

You will learn from industry experts in the classroom along with employment in the electrical field for on-the-job training while earning a living. The class teaches the how’s and why’s of electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, lighting, motors and controls, and more. Your job as an electrical apprentice will give you the hands-on training to compliment your education. 

Our classes meet once a week at the Ontario campus but you will have the option to Zoom in to class if you are working out of town. You will spend three hours in class each week and an additional 2 hours or more independently studying. You will have a minimum of 576 of classroom (in-class and online) training with 8,000 hours of on-the-job experience during the four-year program.

General Journeyman (Inside) Electrician or Manufacturing Plant Electrician
Represents twelve courses offered over twelve terms during the four years of the TVCC Electrical Apprenticeship program. Courses in this Inside Electrician/Manufacturing Plant series will supplement on-the-job training with technical training required for trade comprehension, application and practice. Instruction includes electrical theory and circuits, applied mathematics and the principles of power distribution. Advanced topics include operation of single-and three-phase transformers, motors and alternators, DC motors and generators; calculations and tables required in sizing conductors, branch circuits, breakers, junction boxes, motors, generators and transformers.

TVCC uses approved American Heart Association guidelines for CPR training. AHA Guidelines are used to create the highest quality training materials, courses and programs in CPR, first aid and advanced emergency cardiovascular care for healthcare professionals, first responders, employees and the general public. Current Classes

Emergency Medical Technician

Earn a certificate and get started in this exciting career.

TVCC offers a One-Year Emergency Medical Technician Certificate program, which provides students with the first year of a two-year degree leading into becoming a paramedic. This certificate is designed to articulate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Technology-Paramedic or a baccalaureate degree in Emergency Medical Services. The certificate program requires a minimum of 47 credits.

Wildland Fire

All Wildland Fire classes meet or exceed federal course standards as outlined by the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG)

TVCC is an active partner with local and regional federal and state agencies to provide training opportunities for current agency personnel, private fire contractors and individuals seeking employment as firefighters. Many of these courses have pre-requisite requirements in order to register. Space is limited and there are enrollment pre-registration deadlines.
