The health of our business community is central to the health of our community overall. A vibrant and welcoming community is key to the overall college experience.   

Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC) has a long tradition of supporting business and community development.  It’s easy to say we love our community but occasionally, we really have to step up big and apply action to those words. TVCC’s Foundation Office has done just that in their most recent concerted effort by purchasing eGift cards for our future TVCC alumni.  TVCC held its first “CARmencement” on Friday, June 11th and as gifts to our graduates the Foundation purchased 100 $10 gift cards for their goodie bags.  

It’s vital that we help our community by shopping locally because it does way more than just help that individual business owner; it keeps the money in our communities and contributes to all the services that we come to rely on and aid in our quality of life.  When small businesses succeed, local communities thrive.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been a program of TVCC since 1983; providing no cost individual business advisory and other services to small business owners in our local communities.  “Our local small businesses are critical to creating a sense of place and community” according to SBDC Director Andrea Testi.  Last spring, in response to the struggling pandemic economy, the Shop Four Rivers grassroots initiative was created by the SBDC and key local partners.  The program is based on a conscious choice to keep local dollars local and help create sustainable revenue for our local small businesses.   People that are buying the Shop Four Rivers gift cards are earmarking money that will stay local. Recipients of the gift cards get to explore unique local shops and take pride in being a part of growing the local economy.
