Changes for TVCC's athletics

August 12, 2021

ONTARIO - Treasure Valley Community College athletics leadership is headed for a change following the announcement current Athletic Director Andy Ward will be leaving Aug. 27. In his submitted resignation letter, Ward cited personal reasons for his departure.

Ward was hired in 2018 and replaced Ed Aronson who retired after more than 10 years as TVCC’s Director of Athletics. Under Ward’s leadership the Easly Gym was completely remodeled with new flooring, scoreboards, and lighting.

“This past year has been unlike any other for athletics and TVCC; I am grateful for Andy’s steady leadership,” TVCC President Dr. Dana M. Young said. “I appreciate Andy’s dedication as an athletic director and a coach.”

An interim director has not been named, but the College expects to develop a plan next week. Once a decision has been made, a job posting will be posted on TVCC’s webpage at

Adding to the changes, TVCC also announced three new head coaches: John Farrington, Baseball Head Coach; Riley Helmick. Women's Basketball Head Coach; and Mayra Rodriguez, Volleyball Interim Head Coach.

Farrington comes to TVCC from Eastern Oregon University where he was the Assistant Baseball Coach.  He is also familiar with the NWAC, having also served as an assistant coach for two years at Lane Community College.

Riley Helmick, who served as TVCC's Interim Head Women's Basketball coach in 2020-21, is no stranger to TVCC.  During the 2019-20 season she was the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.  Riley, an Ontario native, was also an outstanding student athlete for the Chukars, holding the school record for made 3's in a season (85) and also for a career (143).

Mayra Rodriguez was TVCC's Interim Volleyball Coach during the 2020-21 academic year.  Due to the impact of COVID-19, the Chukars were unable to compete in volleyball during the shortened season.  Mayra agreed to continue in her current role through the 2021 season.
