TVCC Announces Partnership with SkyWest Airlines
Ontario, OR – Treasure Valley Community College and SkyWest Airlines are teaming up to help TVCC aviation students launch a career with SkyWest Airlines after graduation.
The partnership, part of the SkyWest Airlines Pilot Pathway Program, provides a clear and direct path into an aviation career for TVCC’s aviation students.
SkyWest, a regional airline with almost 14,000 employees that operates more than 2,100 daily flights to over 250 destinations across North America, hosted TVCC students at its maintenance hangar in Boise in November. This tour and continuing meetings resulted in the official partnership agreement this month.
TVCC students in this new program receive several benefits including access to pilot mentors throughout their education, enhanced company seniority and a guaranteed final interview with SkyWest.
TVCC’s Dean of Career & Technical Education David Koehler said the partnership reflects TVCC’s mission to not only educate students, but also provide the tools to succeed after graduation.
“Our goal is to be among the leading institutions of higher education in the country to produce quality professional pilots for the global aviation industry.” Koehler said. “The SkyWest-TVCC partnership matches our highest quality students with one of the most highly respected regional carriers in the industry. It’s truly a win-win relationship.”
Koehler added that the partnership will also benefit the center’s student recruitment efforts.
“Considering that global demand for pilots is on the rise, this partnership also will encourage the next generation of professional pilots as they see a direct path to a career with a respected and innovative employer like SkyWest,” he added.
The airline industry faces what some analysts have called a cascading shortfall of pilots and mechanics nationwide. A combination of pilot retirements and federal regulations have left the industry with challenges, while giving colleges like TVCC an expanded opportunity to help prepare the next generation of pilots.
TVCC President Dr. Dana Young said the prestigious partnership is just the beginning of an effort that could lead to dramatically increasing the program’s size.
“TVCC is dedicated to being nimble and responsive when it comes to filling workforce needs wherever we find them — on the ground or in the air,” Dr. Young said. “We are committed to strengthening our partnership with SkyWest to continue to grow our aviation programs and increase job opportunities for our students.”
Under the new partnership, SkyWest will also send aviation professionals and company experts to consult with TVCC’s aviation training program on an ongoing basis.
