Celebrating Graduates at CARmencement
Friday, June 11, 2021 - 6 p.m.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, TVCC will not be able to host our annual graduation commencement program in John J. Easly Gymnasium.
In order to provide a ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our TVCC graduates, the college has coordinated an outdoor drive-thru commencement (aka CARmencement) to honor our graduates in a safe environment. The event will take place on Friday, June 11th at 6:00PM.

In order to mitigate waiting times, we have assigned arrival times for the graduates attending the ceremony to be in line. Arrival times are organized by the FIRST LETTER of your LAST NAME as follows:

Last Names A-D: Arrive between 6:00PM and 6:20PM
Last Names E-K: Arrive between 6:20PM and 6:40PM
Last Names L-R: Arrive between 6:40PM and 7:00PM
Last Names S-Z: Arrive between 7:00PM and 7:20PM

Again, we ask that graduates DO NOT arrive to campus prior to their scheduled time. This will mitigate your wait times in your vehicles and allow for a much smoother event.

If you have a significant other/individual you wish to graduate with, but do not share the same last name (or the last name on file with TVCC) please contact us for your arrival time. Send an email to Vice President of Student Services Travis McFetridge at
Likewise, if the time you have been assigned will not work for you for one reason or another, please email  Vice President Travis McFetridge at
Reminder: The entrance for the event will be on the south end of the campus by the TVCC Residence Halls.

Additionally, there will be an open Zoom Session on Wednesday, June 9 @ 3:00PM for Specific Graduation Ceremony Information and an open Q&A Session if you would like to attend (not required). Check you TVCC email for the link or send an email to Vice President of Student Services Travis McFetridge at

When is TVCC’s commencement?
Friday, June 11, 2021 (specific times vary based on last name)
Graduates of both the classes of 2020 and 2021 are invited to attend the celebration. Families are invited to accompany graduates, within a two-car limit per graduate. The event will be live-streamed for family members watching at home.

What is CARmencement?
This interactive, COVID-safe event will allow TVCC graduates to drive through campus in a vehicle, get cheered on and celebrated by faculty and staff, stop at a photo station and more. Graduates will also be given an opportunity to safely exit the car, walk across the stage, turn the tassle and receive a diploma cover. Grads are also encouraged to decorate their vehicles and join in the festivities!

How do I sign up for CARmencement?
The TVCC Registrar's office has emailed all graduates with information about signing up for the ceremony.
If you are graduating and you know right now that you want to go, please tell us by registering here
If you are graduating and you have not yet received an email, contact

Where is CARmencement?

The CARmencement ceremony will take place on the Ontario campus. Students will drive through a planned route. See the route here

What if I want to participate, but I don't have a car?
You are welcome to walk across the stage If you don’t have a vehicle for yourself or your family please email  with your name and contact information so we can give you specific details about walk-up options.

Can my family come? How many people can I invite?
Graduates will be limited to two cars and the number of people who safely fit inside (based on the number of seat belts). ***This event will be live-streamed so that those who do not fit inside the vehicle will have the opportunity to watch from home via the internet. The link will be posted on this page and here on the day of the event.

Can I come to CARmencement by myself?
Yes! If you are driving through the experience solo, there will be a place for you to pull over your car and park while you exit to pick up your diploma cover.

Will my family be able to take pictures?
Guests are welcome to take photos from the vehicle if they are not driving. In addition, there will be a photo station at the end of the route near the Fountain in front of the Student Services area.  Only the graduate will be allowed to exit the vehicle to receive their diploma cover. Friends and family members will not be allowed to exit in order to take pictures. There will be an opportunity to order photos after the event.

How long will it take to drive the route?
The event is planned to take no more than an hour; however, due to unanticipated traffic it could take longer.

Do I need to wear a mask when I walk across the stage?
We are still awaiting final guidance and information on this. For now, the plans is for each graduate to wear a mask when exiting the vehicle to walk across the stage.  The mask may be briefly removed for the formal graduation photo after the diploma cover is received.

Are there rules about the kind of vehicle I am allowed to drive through the route?
While we hope students have fun and show creativity with their vehicles, we do have some rules to keep the event safe for all and to adhere to Oregon driving and vehicle laws.

Each graduate may drive one standard passenger vehicle (car, van, SUV, or pickup truck) through the CARmencement route . Cars will need to make 180 degree turns.  Those towing trailers or driving oversized vehicles that cannot safely drive the route will be turned away. RVs or other motorhomes will not be allowed.

Decorations are encouraged, but decorations cannot impede visibility or fall off the vehicle. The number of passengers in the car cannot exceed the number of seat belts available in the car. Aftermarket sound-making devices and home-made lights are not allowed on Oregon roadways, so please leave those off your vehicles for this experience. Motorcycles are permitted, but riders must wear a helmet pursuant to Oregon law.

Who do I contact if I need accommodations for a disability?
Video livestreams will also be available on the TVCC website. Participating students who need specific accommodations should contact Accommodations & Accessibility Services by emailing Travis McFetridge at

When will I get my diploma?

Official diplomas will be mailed after the term ends and all grades are official. It typically takes 3-5 weeks for all diplomas to be distributed.

Who can I contact with additional questions?
We are here to support you! If you have additional questions regarding Commencement activities, please send an email to and we will get back to you. If you have questions about your petition to graduate, diploma/certificate, or other items related to your academic record, please contact

Graduates and their families should plan to enter the graduation route near the Residence Halls entrance. Please make sure everyone in your group (limit of two cars per graduate) arrives and is in line together before proceeding into the entrance.
