Construction Combine

TVCC SBDC Construction Combine 2019

Are you a contractor looking to hire construction workers for your team in 2019?

Are you a job seeker interested in getting a job in construction work?

Then the Construction Combine is an event you need to know about!

March 20-21, 2019 in Ontario Oregon

TVCC Center for Business, Workforce & Community Learning (CBWCL) has partnered with several local organizations to provide FREE training in construction skills to interested trainees. Contractors will be selected to attend to help meet their hiring needs and to brush up on their employee training skills.

The 2 day event will consist of safety training, applied building skills, networking, and will culminate with an NFL-inspired draft where contractors can offer jobs to the trainees!

This event will help strengthen our workforce opportunities, support our local contractors by training new workers and military veterans key construction skills, provide job opportunities, and bolster our construction trades overall.

Join us for this hiring and training event in March 2019 that are inspired by the NFL draft to give local contractors the opportunity to interact with youth and military veteran job seekers in the construction trades industry!

Job seekers will demonstrate their skills and learn new ones in the Construction Combine. They will have plenty of opportunity to demonstrate their motivation, meet with contractors, and potentially be offered a job during our Drafts to end each event. Event will take place in the parking lot of The Home Depot in Ontario, Oregon March 20-21, underscoring the commitment the Home Depot Foundation places in improving the lives of U.S. veterans, and training tradespeople to fill the labor gap.

Participants will fill out an application and submit a “Letter of Intent” expressing why they would like to participate. Employers will have the opportunity for mini-interviews during the event.  Safety training will occur daily. Groups will be formed from the selected trainees. Under the direction of local contractors, trainees will learn basics including:

Framing                Concrete           Electrical               Roofing
Plumbing             Flooring            Masonry

Trainees will build 4 sheds while rotating through various contractor training stations.  Sheds will be donated to local veterans. Once all the sheds are built and the contractors have time to deliberate their picks, the Construction Worker Draft will commence. You can expect food, networking and a great time at these NFL-inspired events! While we will only hold a first round of draft picks, it is our hope that most of the trainees will receive jobs offers from these events.
