Thank you to everyone for your dedication and your resilience during this time. The first few days of the term went well and we are grateful for all of your hard work, care and concern for each other. In an effort to keep connected, we will be reaching out in the next few days to collect stories and features to help us stay connected while we are apart. Stay tuned!
Faculty and Adjunct Faculty: Recording your Zoom lectures is a great way for students who missed a class to stay caught up. Recording your Zoom class is as easy and pressing a button, but then what? And there are important FERPA implications when doing so.
Here are some FERPA facts for you:
1. If a recording includes only the instructor, it is not a student record and FERPA does not limit its use.
2. On Zoom, your recording may include student faces and participation. This type of recording is protected by FERPA.
3. If access to the recording is limited ONLY to other students in the class or school officials with a legitimate educational interest, FERPA does not limit or prevent its use and does not require obtaining a written consent. However, make sure the recording is available ONLY in a secure environment, like the password protected Canvas shell. Due to limited storage capabilities, IT will need to purge Canvas of recordings at the end of the term. You can, however, store your videos on Microsoft Stream as well. Make sure you allow on class members to access it. Here are some links to get you started:
4. If you allow students or individuals outside of class (excluding school officials with a legitimate educational interest) to access the video, you must obtain individualized FERPA consents from the students in the recording or edit the recording to omit any student who has not consented to the use of their voice or image.

All: Send in pictures of your furry co-workers joining you in your Zoom conferences, meetings and classes. Or maybe you had a funny Zoom fail? Email us your story here
All: Are you an employee that is required to report to work and in need of childcare? The State of Oregon may help. For information, you can click here. (Thank you, Sheryl Romans, for the information!)
Daily Updates: Daily updates will become “as-needed” updates. As we #stayhomestayhealthy and #stayhomesavelives, we are adapting a new normal and the reports have begun to slow down. We will, of course, continue to add updates to the TVCC website here
Employees: Qualify for a tuition waiver and feeling “cooped up” while working at home? You can take a class tuition-free by filling out the Tuition Waiver form and turning it into Mandy or Laree at the business office!
Feeling stressed? We have additional information posted on Tele-Health services. Look at what’s available here
# StayHomeStayHealthy: Avoid crowds as much you can. Try to avoid the desire to run out and buy toilet paper, dried beans and flour (unless you really need them of course!) If we all comply with rules, this virus will stop spreading and we can return to our regular schedules and lives!
Campus Buildings: We are OPEN but are limiting public access to campus buildings. Closed building will be posted as closed. Please do not enter these buildings (even if you have keys - and don't ask anyone else to open these buildings for you) without permission since we are trying to limit access to enable us to prioritize cleaning during this time.
