Partial list of TVCC 2017 summer camps

Note: The camps listed below which are NOT athletic camps are funded by a grant from the Oregon Department of Education. Because of that, students who live in Oregon, and members of partnering non-profits will receive priority admission.

Camp applications are due by May 1. After May 1, if there is space remaining, camp spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Space is limited in all camps. Campers should bring this form, signed by parents, to the first day of camp.

  July 5-8 Computer Camp for High School Students

Campers will learn the basic components of a computer. Competitions will be based on the basic parts of computer composition and networking. Camp highlight will be each camper building a basic computer. Cost is $25. For more information, contact Calvin Hiatt at chiatt@tvcc.cc or 541-881-5814.

July 10-14 Horse Training Camp for High School Students

Campers will learn basics of horses and horsemanship. Equine safety will be a common theme throughout the camp. Students will learn the basics of teaching a solid foundation for a horse and how to work with a horse, rather than against resistance. Industry partners will help with a variety of sessions and explain how careers in horse training are available throughout the Treasure Valley and in high demand. Horses will be provided. July 17-18 Middle School STEM Camp

Camp emphasizes the fun activities which can be experienced through STEM-related content. Specifically aerospace, with rockets, drones, engineering and meteorology as part of the experience. Guest instructors will be utilized, as will TVCC instructors. Camp highlights will be building and firing rockets, building miniature roller-coasters, and flying drones. Industry partners will present how trouble-shooting and problem solving lead to a high demand employee, and careers in these activities are readily available. Cost is $25. July 19-21 Middle and High School Robotics Camp

Basic robotics will be introduced. Components from VEX robotics and the national competition hosted by VEX will be used. Students will build a robot that can operate both autonomously and manually. July 24-25 High School Challenge Camp

The ultimate challenge for campers who want to test their problem-solving skills. Campers will be challenged to take basic materials found commonly in the home and engineer machines and structures. Camp challenges will vary in size, from large to small, in material, and will be across multiple content areas. Cost is $25. July 24-26 Volleyball: Incoming 6-8th Grade Camp

July 26-27 Middle and High School Coding Camp

Students will learn on a Raspberry Pi unit the fundamentals of coding and programming. Instructor Randy Seals has worked in both the private and public sector and will draw from his career to teach how coding and programming skills are valuable and desirable to employers as well as high wages available to workers with these skills. July 28-29 High School STEM Camp

July 28-29 Volleyball: High School Team Tournament (welcoming Oregon and Idaho schools)

Aug 7-10 Aviation Camp

Camp will focus on discovery of basic pilot skills, weather study, aerodynamics and mechanical aircraft systems that every student pilot needs as part of their pre-solo ground school. Students will receive 2-4 hours of flight time with a fixed-wing instructor in a Cessna aircraft and observe 2-4 hours as a passenger during the duration of the camp.
