TVCC hires new baseball coach
The Chukars have a new face in the dugout.
Treasure Valley Community College hired Dave Nakama as the new head coach for the Chukars baseball team for 2016-17. Coach Nakama comes to TVCC with more than 30 years of collegiate coaching experience, most recently as head coach at San Jose State University.
“Coach Nakama will be a great fit for our baseball program, which is rich in tradition and success, on and off the field,” said TVCC Director of Athletics Ed Aronson. “Coach Nakama’s coaching philosophy is a great fit for the community college level, striving to mentor, teach, and prepare student- athletes for ‘life after baseball’ as well as the transition to four-year universities,” Aronson added.
Prior to TVCC and San Jose State University, Nakama was also an assistant coach in the Pac-12, at Stanford University and University of Washington.
“It is a great privilege to be the head baseball coach at TVCC. It’s not too often that you can be a part of a baseball program that is embraced by the administration and community like Chukar baseball,” Nakama said.
Nakama replaces Aaron Sutton who resigned earlier this month to take a head coaching position at Montana State University-Billings.
Coach Nakama now resides in Ontario with his family.
Assistant Baseball Coaches Steve Luby and Greg Christensen will stay with the Chukars this season and assist Coach Nakama in building the program.
