UPDATE: Due to rain in the forecast for Friday, the TVCC Baseball schedule has changed. The games are now Saturday, March 25, at 1 p.m. and Sunday, March 26, at 11 a.m. The Jeff Lahti recognition will take place prior to the first pitch Saturday at approximately 12:50 p.m.
Former Chukar Pitcher to be Honored
Jeff Lahti, former Chukar and MLB pitcher, will be honored prior to Saturday's doubleheader with Clackamas Community College.
Gametime is set for 11 a.m. March 25, weather permitting. Check the TVCC athletics website for schedule changes.
Lahti is currently in his second year as pitching coach for CCC. He played for TVCC in 1976 and 1977, before spending a year at Portland State University and then joining the Cincinnati Reds organization. His baseball biography is below.
On April 1, 1982, after four years in the Cincinnati Reds organization, Jeff Lahti
was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals along with Jose Brito for Bob Shirley. Lahti
made his Major League debut with the Cardinals on June 27, 1982, and became one of
the setup men for Bruce Sutter, pitching in 36 of Sutterâ€™s MLB record of 45 saves
in 1982. Lahti went on to be a member of the Cardinals team that defeated the Milwaukee
Brewers in the 1982 World Series. After Sutterâ€™s departure, Lahti became the leader
of the bullpen by committee, where he had 19 saves and an ERA of 1.84 in 52 appearances
in 1985. He then went on to the 1985 World Series against Kansas City.
