Frequently Asked Questions

The TVCC Library staff is happy to answer any of your questions. For your convenience, we have assembled a list of frequently asked questions by our patrons. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

How do I log into my Student account?

Your student login is universal. You will have the same login for your email, MyTVCC, Blackboard, campus computers, campus wi-fi, etc. The only place you will have different logins is when using the Library databases. For that login information, please contact the Library Staff.

If you are having trouble remembering your MyTVCC login credentials, please contact the IT Helpdesk for assistance at 541-881-5777.

How do I access TVCC's wi-fi?

You will need to register your computer on the campus wireless network. This only has to be done once and then you will be able to login to the campus wi-fi with your student login. This can be done from the website by clicking on Technology Help and the Wireless Connection Request link on the sidebar. Follow the steps listed there. The system updates nightly, so after registering your computer you will be able to access the wi-fi by the next day. If you have any trouble, please visit the IT Helpdesk in the Albertson building for assistance, or call them at 541-881-5777.

How do I get a Library card?

Your student ID card is your Library card. Once you have a current student ID, visit the Library and we will make your ID into a Library card. For Caldwell students, you may get your student ID card at the Caldwell Front Office. The staff at the Caldwell front office can create your Library account for you upon request.

What is my library barcode and password?

When your Library account is made, the staff member will give you a barcode and a temporary four-digit password. This is typically written on the back of your student ID. If you already have a Library account but do not know what your password is, please contact the Library staff and we will reset your password.

What if I've forgotten my password or barcode number?

You can click on the Access my Account link on our Library home page and reset your account or you can contact the Library staff and we will reset it for you.

How do I access the TVCC databases?

Access to the databases at TVCC are for our students and staff. Each database has their own login unique to our college. The Library and the Student Services center in Caldwell have password cards with the necessary login information.

How do I access TVCC's eBooks?

How do I get started on writing my paper?

Most instructors at TVCC use MLA format for paper writing. Here is an example of how your paper should look when you are finished. The headings, margins, numbering, etc. included here are correct unless your instructor has given you other specifics. Use this as a guideline, and when in doubt, ask your professor.

  • Step 1: Make sure you have a good understanding of what your instructor is asking you to write about. Do you need illustrations? Statistics? Reviews? Or other types of information to be included?
  • Step 2: Find out how many sources you need and if they have to be certain types, ie. encyclopedias, books, journal articles, etc.
  • Step 3: Choose a starting place to search that fits your particular subject. For example, if you are looking up articles on Rangeland Management, the GREENR database for natural resources on Gale is the best starting point.
  • Step 4: Look at the sources that you find and the information that they cover. Decide what specifically you want to focus your writing or your speech on. This will help save you time in reading through information as well as in narrowing down your sources to ones that will be of help.
  • Step 5: When in doubt, ask a Librarian for help.

Where can I find help with my citations or Works Cited page for my paper?

At TVCC, we provide you with several options to help with your citations. We do understand that citations can be a challenging and even frustrating part of the research process. To help you in this endeavor, the English Department provides help through the TVCC Writing Lab. You can find further information and hours available here for the Writing Labs in Ontario and Caldwell. The staff in the Writing Labs would be happy to check your citations or get you started. The Library has citation books that you are welcome to come check out. We will also be happy to help you get started in using them. Through the Library, there is a Citation Help page to help you with some basic citations and give you links to some free online citation sites as well.

Can I take tests in the Library?

If you are not a TVCC student and looking for a local proctor, please come and talk to the Librarian. We are happy to help you get connected to the proctoring services you may be looking for.
