The Four Levels
We emphasize on developing students' ability to use a dictionary and to recognize and form letters (including cursive letters) and simple sentences and to interpret and write words within the context of listening and understanding messages (job applications, flyers, warning signs, understanding bills, etc.) in English.
We start focusing on grammatical accuracy in speaking and writing. The instructor begins to assist students' skills of self-monitoring in the context of situations which require the use of English for communication.
Fluency, communication, and grammatical accuracy begin to be emphasized. The instructor begins to assist students in correcting their own errors.
Skills needed to function effectively in familiar and unfamiliar social/work situations. Communication needed to discuss cultural differences and use English to solve problems outside the class.
Who can take our classes?
Anyone over the age of eighteen (18) is eligible to participate in ESOL classes at TVCC. Students under the age of 18 must be released by their local area school district prior to participation.
